River Casemate A-type

A typical A-type river casemate. The A-type only had one level, whereas the B-type at least two. This particular one was situated at the Westervoort bridge (near Arnhem).

The A-types were less common than the B-types, and only used there where casemates could not be constructed next to an elevated causeway. The bigger loophole was for the 4,7 cm AT gun, the smaller one for the MG. Both gun rooms were seperated by a concrete inner-wall.
