Hr Ms Texelstroom - may 1940

With this ship many German POW's were shuttled over from Ymuiden harbour to the UK, only minutes after the formal Dutch capitulation on the 14th.

This incident, that was a clear breach of the international conventions, outraged Hermann Goering when he found out that many hundreds of his precious airbornes and pilots had been kidnapped from under his hands, costing him a great deal of the experienced and thoroughly trained nucleus of his Luftwaffe. All Germans onboard would spend the rest of the war in the UK and Canada. Only a happy few were at some stage exchanged against Allied POW's.
