Etten - may 1940

This picture was taken in Etten-Leur [village Etten in 1940],at an avenue called Markt. It was heavily targetted by German dive bombers when Dutch and French troops were spotted. The village - nowadays a small city - was situated along the main road between Breda and Roosendaal, which was the main connecting road in the heart of the French defence-zone in May 1940. The village suffered quite heavy damage from numerous raids, and some French casualties as well as Dutch civilians fatalities were registered. Also at least two Panhard armoured cars were destroyed by German doing.
