Dutch 12 cm howitzer - may 1940

Four Dutch artillery battalions were equipped with this Bofors gun, that was capable of rapid fire with a maximum range of almost 7,000 mtr.

Especially III-2RA [equipped with twelve of these guns] close to Katwijk managed to harm German troops that had just landed at Valkenburg AFB. Many Ju-52 transporters and much material of the landed forces were destroyed by shells of this battalion. The intense fire chased the Germans off of the field.

The picture shows Dutch military personnel with the M.16 helmet, which had much resemblance with the standard British helmet. It caused many Dutch fitted with this older Dutch helmet to face agressive German behaviour when caught, because they were suspected to be British troops fighting in the Netherlands. Obviously that wasn't the case at all.
