He-111 nose-gunner - may 1940

The eight successfully scrambled Fokker G-1 fighters from the 3rd Fighter Squadron [JaVA] at Waalhaven managed to shoot down no less than 13 [confirmed] German planes in the first hour of the war, amongst which 8 bombers of the first waves [He-111]. Only one G-1 was lost due to German fighters.

This picture shows a He-111 nose-gunner [observer position] trailing a G-1 with his machinegun. The photograph is most likely a PK [propaganda] picture taken after the May War. The Germans captured about 20 G-1's intact and these were used as training planes for twin-engine fighters, such as the Bf-110 and twin engine night fighters like the Do-217.
