The Vickers 7.5 cm AA gun - may 1940

A very capable weapon that was applied in batteries of three guns. Each battery was also equipped with a stereoscope [for distance and height measurement] and a fire-directional control system. This FDC system was a rudimentary mechanical computer that calculated all kinds of elements and factors and pre-set the guns half-automatically to the right setting. All the crew had to do was load the gun with the correctly timed fuse on the grenade and adjust the barrel position according to the FDC-preset default instrument settings. Time was of the essence during that loading and aiming process, obviously.

The 7.5 Vickers was introduced in 1935, and was the main heavy AA gun of the Dutch army.
