Situation map of the Tholen and St.Philipsland battle-zones - may 1940
The map shows the German progress in red and the Dutch moves in black. In the far right down corner the situation at the besieged town of Tholen. The inundation in front of the line shows the limitation of German moves.
After Zuid-Beveland [left down corner] had fallen on the 16th, the defence of Tholen did no longer contribute to any cause. That's why on the 16th the Dutch detachment endeavoured to reach Schouwen-Duiveland [to the left top corner]. The units of the Gruppe Wirtz took positions in the undefended St.Philipsland at the 16th and crossed the narrow Zijpe at the 17th.
