Typical river casemate - may 1940
Type B river casemate. This picture was taken by the victors at the Moerdijk bridges.
These casemates were very strong and usually equipped with one gun of 4,7 cm and one heavy machine gun Schwarzlose. The tall structure was not only meant for creation of large storage and protected rooms, but the basis of the heavy casemates was placed on '0' level next to a bridge ramp or a dike. That's the reason why the loop holes are situated at elevated levels.
